    Katie McIntosh, MSW, LCSW

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, specializing in bariatrics, disordered eating, bariatric evaluations and pre-and post-operative therapy. I also treat depression, anxiety, mood disorders, traumatic experiences and recovery, women’s health and life issues and other significant life events.

Having had bariatric surgery, I understand the emotions involved not only with dieting and weight loss, but in how food affects us in our everyday life. I know the pain, the struggle and the doubt that comes with weight loss and our own expectations with dieting. I have been there and can meet you where you are in your journey to discover what your true relationship with food is. I am passionate about bariatrics; helping others become mindful of their eating habits and learning about the relationship we have with food.

I believe treatment approaches and techniques are unique to each client, which individually and combined provide help to people with a broad range of struggles. However, Cognitive-Behavioral and Solution Focused are two I often find helpful in my therapeutic work. Cognitive-Behavioral therapy is evidence based and research has shown it is helpful for those with a broad range of struggles. Looking at unhelpful thoughts and behaviors provides a solid foundation for change. This approach gives clients new skills, providing a concrete way to change their thoughts, feelings, and behavior.

I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I have been practicing Social Work professionally for over 9 years.

I enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling, playing in local orchestras and relaxing with my dog.
